Let me tell you a little story about a journey I am on. A journey to true (and lasting) health and wellness for myself and for my family.
I look around and everyone I see is either very unhappy with their weight, struggling to lose weight, or wishing they could be healthier. It wasn’t until recently, that I understood just how fast we can lose control…how fast I was losing control. I also never understood until recently, how incredibly linked our health is to our faith.
Last night I was tempted. I mean…really, really tempted. We were at the fair and, well… fair food. Enough said. But then, something really cool happened. God reminded me of His truth. It says in 1 Corinthians 10:13 : “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
Now, at the time I didn’t say it just like that, and I definitely wasn’t sure exactly where it was in the Bible, but none of that mattered. God had already written those words on my heart long ago. He knew in that moment, in that time, I would need to call on them. And I did. And it worked! You guys! Do you see what I am saying?!? It WORKED. God worked. His word WORKED. As soon as I spoke those words into my life, my temptation dwindled, my attitude changed…and my actions… followed. Through His strength, not in my own – I. Resisted. Temptation!!! (And I have to fill you in on what it was because that matters. It was a warm, homemade, glazed donut, like… seriously?!?!? I didn’t eat that?!?! I didn’t justify it away by saying “I’ll just have one small bite” or “it’s not that big” Guys, I fed one to my baby and didn’t even lick my fingers!!!! WHHHHHAAAAATTTT??!!!) God’s strength is SO strong. SO secure. SO powerful. And SO unfailing.
It says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 : “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
I want to honor God with all aspects of my life. So that I can experience everything He has in store. One thing I have learned, is that God’s word is so real. It is so alive. It is so true.
So, as I sit here HAPPILY drinking my plain hot tea (that is naturally detoxing my body), I tell you, God is good. His promises are true. Rely on Him and what He can do and there will be no limits on how He can and will change YOU. You will overcome your addictions, your weight loss, the marriage you want to give up, the kids that you want to sell (okay, maybe just adopt out sometimes)…lol. God will change your world if you allow Him to. I know He came in and totally changed mine. (And continues to!).
I hope this can help inspire even just one person today.
