Live Like You’re Loved – Hawk Nelson

“I’m tellin’ you somethin’ this racing, this running, oh, you’re working way too hard. And this perfection you’re chasing is just energy wasted ‘cause he loves you like you are! So go ahead and live like you’re loved. It’s ok to act like you’ve been set free. His love has made you more than enough so go ahead and be who he made you to be. Live like you’re loved.”

Many of us are perfectionists at one level or another. We make our lists and want to check things off. And we want each thing checked off to be done right—perfectly, if possible. But God is kind, and as he gives us opportunities to serve, jobs to do and families to love, he graciously shows us that he wants our love not our perfection. He wants us to be who he made us to be—not to be the stressed-out version of ourselves. Do you relate? Keep this in mind as you seek each day to balance your life of love in action. Don’t ‘work way too hard’ and don’t waste energy, as the song reminds you. God will show you how to fit the “one anothers” into your life, one day at a time if you seek him, starting each day your eyes on Him and your heart focused on what he tells you in his word. And remember, God wants you to live like you are loved by him, because you are! You have been set free from the chains of perfection.

Do you tend to be a perfectionist? Do you sometimes feel like you are working way too hard and wasting time trying to get everything perfect? Do you believe that God loves you just the way you are—perfect or not? Do you “live like you’re loved?”

Jeremiah 31:3 “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”

Father, I want to stop striving to be perfect and I want to rest in your love. Break the cycle of striving for perfection and replace it with love. Help me to live like I’m loved by you so that others might see your love for them. Show me how you want me to love with action. Set me free to love. In Jesus’ name, Amen
