Making it a family thing - the b.i.b.l.e.
by Jeannie Blocher
A new year starts, activities resume, and quality family time can get lost in the daily schedule. What can you do to stay connected spiritually with your kids and grandkids?
As a grandmother, one of my favorite things is to sit on the couch with my pre-school age grandkids and read Bible stories. I’ve often been a part of morning “banana and book” time with my youngest grandkids because I live near them and keep them in the morning some days. But Bible story and snack time can happen any time of the day. And it can happen by zoom or facetime if you don’t live nearby.
But what about the older kids? I love it that several of my older grandkids attend the same International Bible Study I do, so I often start conversations about what we’ve learned that week. But we’ve also found something else very practical. I am happy to say that my son and his family introduced the rest of us to YouVersion online Bible studies. We jumped in and started choosing short studies to do together by just picking up our phones, clicking the app and doing a daily dive into the word together. We all read the verses and the devotional thoughts, then make comments and share insights with the group. What a joy it is to see the comments from the teens and from various grown family members, as we interact. I have also found it has offered great accountability. Was I going to miss a day when my whole family was doing it faithfully? No!
Some studies we did were a week long, some longer, some shorter. Some were from authors I knew, and others were from new authors I did not know yet. Another advantage is that we can do our personal study at any time during the day. I’m a morning person, so I do it first thing, but one of my teenage grandsons is a night owl, so he always does his before going to bed.
By the way, Body & Soul® gives suggestions for YouVersion studies that go with the focus of our new releases. Ask your instructor for details about this. You will love staying connected spiritually this way. Who will you do a YouVersion Bible study with? Get started today!
