NEW life
There are many signs of new life this time of year. We live on three acres, which includes a peninsula and a pond that attract waterfowl like geese and ducks. We often see geese on the peninsula, but when one of the geese just sits there for a while we know what that means - new life - baby goslings coming soon! Last year on Mother’s Day, it was like they were coming by to tell me ‘Happy Mother’s Day to you too’, because two sets of families (4 adult geese & 9 babies) came parading across our backyard - all in a row, just like the saying goes! Well actually the saying is about having your ‘ducks’ in a row, but we think of that when we see the geese doing the exact same thing!
This is also the season for new life in the plant kingdom. We started some plants inside this winter, so they would already be healthy plants ready for outside growing in March. Seeing the beginning growth is so rewarding. My son planted 12 little cups with squash seeds. He dutifully watered them, being careful not to overwater. It wasn’t exciting work, but it had to be done regularly to keep them alive. Knowing that it takes a while to sprout, we didn’t really give them much attention at first. But then God caused the growth & we saw it! One little plant trying to stick its head out. It was so fun to see! Now, every morning, we run to see if another one has sprouted.
I also think of new life when I think of someone coming to faith in Christ, and then nurturing that new spiritual life. Plants give a great picture of this new spiritual life for us. Regular ‘watering’ is so important to a new believer or they could dry up. Too much ‘watering’ and they can be overwhelmed. When you see them showing signs of growth, it is so exciting!
This is also true for those who have walked with Jesus for a while but then faced things that have caused them to stop growing in emmawatson-fans.com . Their growth has been stunted. Seeing someone like that who now wants to start growing is a great joy. Tonya, who is now in my Body & Soul® class, said to me one day, “Hey, I’d like to do Bible study with you.” She was wanting to seek God again in her life. What a privilege to be part of her growth. It is a chance to live out what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.” We have a part to play in new spiritual life growing and thriving, but it’s God who causes the growth, so all glory goes to Him. What a joyous role to have in someone’s life that helps them grow and blossom.
Who do you know is a new believer, or someone struggling to grow? Reach out to them. Tell them you’d love to come alongside them and be part of their encouragement team to help them grow spiritually. It is one of the most important jobs in the world!
