being a body & soul® fitness instructor - not my plan, but his!
I moved to VA, found a great church, did my own DVD workout at home, but sensed I was missing something special. While visiting another church, there was a ticker tape notice about joining a fitness workout to Christian music. Now that sounded unique. I did some research, found the church where the workout was being held, and walked in not having a clue what to expect. By the way, I was 65 years young at the time and knew I needed to stay fit. I went in and stood next to the door in case it was not the right place. There was prayer to start and then boom, mike drop! WOW! I started to workout but at the same time I was caught up in the music! I was working out, praising God, and having a blast! That was the something ‘special’ that was missing. I officially joined the Body & Soul® Fitness Tuesday/Thursday morning class and discovered I wanted more. I decided to audition to become an Instructor. If I were an Instructor, I’d have the routines and music at home and could workout whenever I wanted. It was not in my plan to actually have a class. Not in my plan… but the Lord had another plan for me. The very day I passed the requirements to become an Instructor, the assistant Instructor in the class decided she was done for a time. The lead Instructor, Lynne Brents, turned to me and without missing a beat, told me, didn’t ask, told me that I was now going to be her assistant. I laughed. No way. It was difficult enough to learn the routines, but to teach them? (I was a retired teacher by trade for 20+ years, but teaching school vs teaching fitness is quite different). So, I became an active Body & Soul® Fitness Instructor. Serving the Lord through exercise is a whole different way to worship God. I have been blessed by the students who supported me right away and were so gracious as they knew I was a newbie. I still get lost in the music when I’m teaching, and the words always have a powerful impact on my thinking. I treasure the friendships I have made with the other Instructors. I am in awe at the fact that I am now 73, do not feel it one bit, and I know it is the fitness physically, but more spiritually that brings me such joy. I now live back in DE and my church has blessed me by allowing me to hold a Body & Soul® Fitness class in the building. The fellowship, joy and fun we have in class is powerful. From seeing that ticker tape, to stepping up to be an active Instructor has been life-changing. I cannot thank Jesus enough for following through on His promise to me; ”I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you... and give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
