Spring Training

1 Corinthians 9:27 “I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.” (NLT)


What Are You “Spring” Training For?

A new season is upon us and as we begin to “clean” things up, perhaps it is time to dust off the weights, clean off your mat, air up the bike tires, and subscribe to your favorite Body & Soul® class!

Physical training is part of our responsibility to take care of the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19-20). Jesus physically carried the cross by himself as he went to the place called Skull Hill where he would be crucified. (John 19:17) The daily activity he had been doing trained him to be able to carry that cross alone. Jesus had a very close intimate relationship with his Father, which gave Jesus the strength to do what needed to be done. God trained Jesus one on one for his journey (Hebrews 5:7-9)! God is also preparing you to be trained each day for the journey you are on. While you are training physically in Body & Soul® classes, and walking, running, biking or doing your functional fitness of the day, do so with a joyful heart, because God has also created you for a purpose (Eph 2:10)!  

Physical training is great for our bodies! It helps to condition them by keeping our hearts strong and our lungs healthy, not to mention all our other organs. And our mental health also thrives from physical exercise! Regular exercise releases the feel-good endorphins that enhance our sense of well-being. It takes our minds off our worries and lifts our spirits and our hearts in a whole different way!

Spring into action!

Heavenly Father, thank you for our bodies!  Forgive us for allowing them to get a bit dusty from season to season…we praise you for the example of strength that Jesus drew from you. Fill us with your strength so that we, too, can carry our cross daily for you!  In the strong and mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
